Stop Believing These LED Lighting Myths

Since becoming the CEO of Artika, I have learned so much about the different kinds of lighting — their pros, their cons, how much influence they have on a room's ambiance, how reflective they are of someone's personal style, etc. There's more to lighting than meets the eye (and yes, I mean this quite literally).

Whenever a particular lighting style becomes popular very quickly, it's not uncommon for consumers to be skeptical and uncertain of its use and benefits. This isn't entirely a bad thing either. People shouldn't spend money on lighting that doesn't grant them the benefits they were promised — and that they're paying good money for. Lighting is such an important fixture in our lives, so consumers should do their due diligence to make sure the lighting they're putting in their homes exceeds their high standards.

LED lighting is a perfect example of this. Despite proving its value over the last several years, there are still aspects of LED lighting that are widely misunderstood. I want to debunk some of the myths surrounding LED lighting so consumers no longer have to wonder for themselves.

Myth: LED Lights Last Forever

As the saying goes: nothing lasts forever — not even LED lighting. However, it is true that LED lights last much longer than traditional incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs. Where incandescent lights last a measly 1,000 hours, fluorescent lights have a much longer lifespan, averaging around 10,000 hours of use. But this is where LED lights truly shine. Most LED bulbs have the potential to last around 50,000 hours, depending on operating temperature and the power at which it's run. So while they don't last forever, their lifespan is impressive nonetheless.

Myth: LED Lights Cost an Arm and a Leg

With anything that is promised to deliver remarkable results, consumers believe the item would be too expensive for them to afford. But this isn't necessarily true. While LED bulbs and lighting fixtures may have a steeper upfront cost, you will financially benefit in the long-term. On the plus side, the price of LEDs has decreased dramatically over the last three to five years as LEDs have become more commonplace.

Myth: LED Lights Cannot Be Dimmed

Many homeowners have fallen in love with their dimmers, and for good reason. People love the warm, comfortable atmosphere that dimmer lights create in their homes. Traditionally, dimmers were once only reserved for incandescent and fluorescent lights because LED capabilities are so much different than these standard lighting options. But this isn't true anymore. Thanks to advancements in technology, dimmers now work on LED bulbs as well. At Artika, we offer a huge selection of LED lighting fixtures, and consumers can check to see which ones are compatible with dimmers.

Myth: LED Lights Aren't Very Bright

Some consumers prefer brighter lighting, especially in the busier areas of their homes, like their kitchens or bathrooms. Some people are wary of buying LED lights because they're worried they won't be as bright as their current bulbs, but this just depends on the level of electrical current these lights receive. Today, lighting designers can control how bright their LED bulbs get, which allows consumers to make their lights as bright or as dim as they wish.

If you were on the fence about buying LED lighting fixtures for your home, hopefully this blog has given you some more information into how LED lights can often be the superior option. If you're interested in learning more about Artika and our products, check out our site today.
