Job Description: Vice President, Product Development

Artika is looking for a Vice President, Product Development. Reporting to the President, the Vice President, Product Development oversees end-to-end product lifecycle and drives strategic innovation and product development initiatives in continued growth for the business. The Vice President, Product Development, works with business leaders to deliver products. He develops and maintains strong relationships across the company, but more specifically with finance, marketing and technology departments. Finally, he leads financial decisions for potential growth opportunities.

Role and Responsibilities

Management and Leadership:

  • Lead the direction of the product development team responsible for improving product management processes, delivering new product initiatives and supporting products in markets;
  • Show and exhibit behaviours consistent with Artika's stated values and desired culture;
  • Positively challenge and influence decisions on strategic and operating issues;
  • Lead by example, in order to foster an environment of collaboration and learning;
  • Direct and participate in growth activities to support overall business objectives and plans;
  • Create a culture of excellence and precision;

Product Development:

  • Lead product development team (design, engineering, sourcing and product development depts.) approx. 20-25 people based in Canada and overseas;
  • Be an active member of the Executive Product Panel (EPP), which has the mandate of generating new product ideas for the company;
  • Furniture installation and other office repairs maintenance
  • Work and build relationships with suppliers to strengthen product development;
  • Negotiate prices with the suppliers;
  • Manage the department’s budget;
  • Lead quality control, manufacturing audits and regulatory efforts;
  • Follow and assess emerging technologies and innovation and see their possible application to the organization;
  • Lead quality control, manufacturing audits and regulatory efforts (certifications…etc.)
  • Actively search for new product ideas and be acutely aware of market trends.

Professional Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in product development;
  • Industrial design or engineering background is a plus;
  • Demonstrated successful execution of business strategies;
  • Experience in the lighting industry is a plus, but not required;
  • Experience in sourcing/product development with Asian suppliers is a strong asset;
  • Exceptional leadership and communications skills;
  • English language is required (Chinese and/or French is a plus, but not required).

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
  • A postgraduate degree in Business Administration is an asset (MBA).
